Fast Attack with Daniel

I’ve worked to get rid of mindless eating, changed the dinner intake to include low-calorie Freshly meals, drastically reduced my soda intake, explored the Weight Watchers zero-point program, and have been bagging my lunch (versus eating out all of the time).  I’ve had some success but, as you can see with my chart, my total weight loss per month continues to become less and less.  So, what to do next?

I’ve reached a point that, perhaps, I need some help to get through this next month while still meeting my weight-loss goal.  Who best to ask for that help?

One of our RAM supporters sent me his fasting plan (see below) and it got me thinking – how can I best fast?  Then, I came across a Men’s Health article writing about different fasting programs and I became intrigued with the Daniel’s Fast.  This is a fast that is biblically connected – I think it is time to feel better connected with God during this journey … and see about a Christian Weight Loss program.

I researched and here, from the Bible, is Daniel’s Faithfulness:

Daniel’s Faithfulness

But Daniel sresolved that he would not tdefile himself with kthe king’s food, or with lthe wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to tdefile himself. uAnd God gave Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the chief of the eunuchs, 10 and the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who assigned your food and your drink; for why should he see that you were in worse condition than the youths who are of your own age? So you would endanger my head with the king.” 11 Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had assigned over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 12 “Test your servants for vten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then let our appearance and the appearance of the youths who eat kthe king’s food be observed by you, and deal with your servants according to what you see.” 14 So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days.

I’ve read versions of 10 days … and 21 days … I’m shooting to meet things in the middle and go for 14 days.  So, here are the highlights of the fast:

– According to Danielsfastjourney.com:  The purpose of a Daniel Fast is to draw closer to God. As you prepare to fast, pray and ask the Lord for guidance as you plan and start your fast. He will meet you in sometimes unexpected ways! Sometimes it’s not your circumstances that change, but your inner world is transformed and you’re empowered to walk through whatever you might be facing.

– Can eat all fruits and vegetables.

– Can eat whole grains.

– Can eat nuts (to include peanut butter).

– Can eat all legumes.

– Can drink water.  There are a number of different interpretations with exceptions of being able to drink coffee and pure fruit juices; but, I don’t see the sacrifice without fasting with just water.

– Can’t:  no meat, dairy products, refined/processed foods, deep fried foods, etc – you’ll need to check out the can/can’t list to know for sure.

My journey will add a Christian aspect for the rest of the month.  According to the Author of The Holy Mess (who lost over 100 pounds herself), here are her 7 truths about her Christian Weight Loss (and I look to apply it to my own journey):

Christian Weight Loss: Losing Weight by the Power of God

  1. God cares about your weight loss plans.
  2. Use Bible verses for weight loss.
  3. Pray for weight loss.
  4. Trade guilt for grace.
  5. Don’t quit.
  6. Make one small change at a time.
  7. God heals.

Want to join me?  Let’s give a little to get a lot … or, in this case, lose a lot!  Find a friend and fast with me … Never Quit!

RAM Supporter Fast

I fast for a minimum of 16 hours . Therefore, I have my first meal at 8 am which is breakfast and I usually eat a protein , a carb and some veggies .

Some of  the examples for a breakfast are :

Two no fat Fage brand plain yogurts ( protein) with a cup of berries – blueberries, blackberries , raspberries ( carb) . If I eat this I don’t have veggies .

Another breakfast I have is a sandwich :  two whole eggs and three egg whites and I make like a small omelette which I place in two toasts ( ezequiel bread ) and I add two strips

If turkey bacon .

At 10:30 I have a snack : ( protein)

Usually two plain 2% cottage cheeses or

A plain Fage non fat yogurt  or protein shake or these protein brownies I buy from Eat Me Guilt Free.

I add some almonds for fat at this time .

At 1 pm I have lunch which consists if 8oz of protein , a cup of clean carb ( a small potato/ cup of rice) , and a vegetable .

I am done with my eating bu say 2 pm and I fast until the next day at 8 am ( breakfast)

I can drink coffee , tea, diet sodas , water all I want during the day .

Most people do a 16 hour fast and start it  the other way around . They start eating their first meal of the day at lunchtime – say 12 or 1 pm  , then a snack( protein)  say at 3 -3:30 then diner like at 7 and  they are done eating and start fasting by 8 pm

I’m just breaking the ice with my version. I like the Daniel but not going for as much yogurt. I snack on dehydrated berries and bananas. Mostly portion control and not eating much after 5:00. I have a long way to go coach cuz

Good luck with what works for you John! Results About Me challenges people to read what is being written and formulate what works best for them — for me, I’m not much of a yogurt guy for example. I do challenge you to add some exercise too! Keep strong!
